The new Google update is once again changing the game and the way the largest search engine on the planet functions.

Google is about to make one of the most significant algorithm updates in years. The new algorithm, dubbed The Google Helpful Content Update , will change the way it ranks websites in search results, giving priority to sites whose content is more informative and helpful to users than created just for the search engine.

The new algorithm will begin its integration this week and is expected to be completed by early September, informs the Google LLC.

The new algorithm places requirements on all businesses positioned online

The upcoming “ content update,” as Google LLC calls it, will affect how search results are ranked. It will also place new requirements on businesses that are positioned online in one way or another, regarding the textual content they currently have and/or are creating.

The goal of the new Google update is to give users access to “high-quality content,” i.e. content that informs and adds value to searchers. Sites whose content has so far only met Google’s ranking requirements will be pushed out in favor of content that informs and adds value to the user.

This change comes to the aid of the user who wants to learn something new and useful, according to their keyword search. Creating “SEO content” that ranks well but provides no informative value to people will prove useless to the search engine. The change is part of the technology giant’s targeted efforts to improve the user experience.

Which areas will be most affected by the upcoming update?

The new algorithms aren't targeting specific niches on the internet, but some will be more heavily impacted than others. The company's analysis suggests that these will include articles, product and category descriptions , and more in areas such as education, arts, entertainment, online shopping, and technology. The reasons are that in these niches, the texts were created with Google's ranking priority by default.

The new algorithm will focus on the entire site, not on individual pages within it

Most of Google's current search algorithms focus on individual pages on a website. With the upcoming ranking update, the algorithms will take the entire site into account.

In this case, if the search engine determines that a large portion of your site’s content is “useless” (i.e. written primarily for the purpose of ranking well), then the entire site will be affected, not its individual pages. In other words, if SEO content (created according to current standards) outweighs quality, useful, and informative content, then your entire site is likely to fall behind in the search results selection.

How will the new Google update affect the work of SEO and copywriting agencies?

SEO and copywriting agencies should focus their efforts on creating content that is “from people to people.” It’s too early to say how big of an impact the new update will have. Time will tell how the requirements for creating web content will change.

Updating current content and/or creating new content to rank a website according to the new algorithm will take time. It will take focused effort and patience to prove to the search engine that the content published on your site is worthy of the attention of users, respectively its own. The work of copywriters and SEO experts will undergo important changes.

Another major change in Google's algorithms (after the Google Panda update in February 2012) shows once again that flexibility is key for experts working in these professional fields. CopyVibes copywriting agency and its team, along with the SEO agencies we partner with, are ready to respond to the changing digital environment and create content that users and Google increasingly value - content created "by people for people". Whether we like it or not, we are obliged to comply with the new Google update and meet its expectations.
